I agree! I wouldn't ruin a bike just for the Badge.

From what I've seen most of them come from girls bikes Guys stripped for the fenders, wheels, chain guards, lights etc. They always seem to be in better shape.
The last one I bought that I know was removed from a bike, the guy bought it for the other prewar Schwinn parts it had and then sold the Badge to me. A big portion of the ones I have are NOS also.:)

A long time ago, ( in a bike collecting galaxy far far away) I bought an umbrella stand full of badges.
It came from a Wheelman out of Texas.
He had bought it from an old guy who worked at a Houston bike shop.
Lots of cowboy badges, a Flying Merkel, car badges.
At the shop where the old guy worked, they use to have "paint your bike" day.
They would disassemble the bikes, the kids would paint them, etc.
Kids being kids, they had no patience and wanted to ride the bikes as soon as possible.
So lots of badges, sometimes, were left off.
This shop threw them in an umbrella stand which I eventually bought for $200 bucks.
There are thousands of different badges out there.
