Bicycle brand precision

contribution by Crawler »Thu Dec 16, 2010 11:21 am
Hello dear Vorum members,
does anyone know about the brand mentioned above and would you be so kind as to send me this information?
I couldn't find anything on google and the forum search didn't yield anything either.
I got one here, it has a low frame number, 4852.
Is according to the hub Bauj.1950, the circuit is stamped with 1952.

Click on the picture to enlarge it.

Thank you, greetings Peter

Hi Peter!
I can tell you that the precision works were in Bielefeld and produced frames, hubs, bottom brackets and cranks for many manufacturers.

Here is some more information from the Historical Museum Bielefeld:

http://www.historisches-museum-bielefel ... .%2003.pdf

Richard Nagel opened his company as the first saddle factory in
1883. He was followed in
1896 by Carl Lohmann with saddles, saddlebags
and from 1900 lamps, in 1897 by
Ludwig Lepper and 1898 by Franz Wittkop
with saddles, and in 1903 by the precision works
with ball bearings, hubs, pedals and
tubes. Dürkopp seems to have manufactured
ball bearings, pedals and chains by 1891 at the latest
. This year
, the Chamber of Commerce reported that a
large proportion of English and German
bicycles ran on bearings and
pedals from Bielefeld.

I hope this helps you further.

Best regards
Andy

Precision works unequal precision!

The question is whether it was a manufacturer at all or a manufacturer, all Googling brings nothing at all and since the frame number from 1950 is only four digits, it certainly didn't last long, maybe someone else knows something.

Here's a picture of a precision wheel from Bielefeld:
Also from the 50s, unfortunately I can't say anything more about the frame number because F&S Torpedo now owns the part.

Hello triepad,
thanks for the trouble, it seems to be the company you mentioned above that also manufactured hubs and the like and was based in Bielefeld.
Unfortunately, nothing more can be found out.

Just because the wheel is called "Precision" and comes from Bielefeld does not mean that it is a product of the precision works. Perhaps a Bielefeld clothing manufacturer wanted to ride on the good name of the precision works........

I read on the Internet that the company existed until 1953 and that bicycles were also sold under the name Precision, so it seems to be from there, but it is not guaranteed.

As I also had a precision wheel (early 1960's) I remember several manufacturers of that name being listed in the Papperitz. Unfortunately, the book is not available at the moment (conversion).

As triepad has already written, I am currently building a
precision bike.
I estimate the frame to be in the early - mid 60's.
I'll check the frame number tomorrow when I go to the workshop.

Hi, that's it...
I'm not interested in the bike either, but in the brand or manufacturer.
I'm looking for information about the manufacturer, not about the wheel itself.
Does anyone know anything about precision?

Greetings Peter

Hello,

Papperitz only writes "around 1935-55" on the sign shown here. Otherwise there are 13 different control head labels in the book, which are assigned to 5 different manufacturers or manufacturers. Sorry, can't be more precise. Was probably an unregistered trademark.

Hey guys,

I have a quick question about the bike above, do you think it's worth the €99? The seller lives not far from me...
Sorry for interfering in this thread...

Greetings ,
Achim
