On offer I have what I believe to be a 1936 Monark Silver King. My first and, heretofore, only post to The Cabe was how excited I was to have acquired this bike and I had hopes of restoring it. That has not yet happened as other bike and non-bike projects keep taking precedent. I listed it on eBay a couple of weeks ago where it "sold" to a non-paying bidder, so if it looks familiar, that's why.
I think it's a 1936 but not sure. It's definitely Pre-War. I have been planning for a couple of years to restore this bike and other projects keep getting in the way. I'd rather see it go to someone who will get it done and do it justice. This bike has a lot more of it's original parts than many I've seen. I was concerned about the handlebars but have included a picture of a 1937 Monark (This one was sold at Montgomery Wards as a Hawthorn Monark Silver King) that shows this same handlebar set. So I do now believe the handlebars are original. I have included another picture of a Monark advertisement that is a very close representation of this bike and you can see that while it's not 100% complete, it has most of it's original parts and even a vintage lock attached to the seat.
It would be 100% rideable with tubes and straightening / truing of the wheels. Wheels are not mangled but the fenders are. It will take some massaging to get them back in order - but they are original! The front fork supports (I don't know what they actually called them, but they are the two rods that follow the forks) will also need some truing but are not too far out of spec. The forks are not damaged at all. The frame is not damaged at all. All frame connecting pins are in place. The perfect resto / rehab candidate! Happy to answer questions. Buyer pays shipping and I would deliver/meet up within a few hours drive for the right compensation. Many thanks,
