Finally riding a big boys bike
Found this page with prewar photos of Quigley’s Bike Shop that was in Manville, New Jersey. They sold Schwinn and other brands. The video is good for some laughs and interesting observations. I didn't see even one bike with a tank, which is another confirmation of the austerity of the Great Depression.
Enjoy the cool pictures & history!
If you live in the area, maybe you can track down some bikes if you ask the right people in Manville. There are several intriguing reader comments at the end of the article about the people still having the bikes they bought at Quigley's and this one: "My first and second bikes were from Quigley. The shop on Main Street was a mess but the man could build a bike. Nothing but Schwinns." And this from the story: ". . . when I got down to Quigley’s that afternoon what I saw scared the hell out of me. There was a pile of bikes in the middle of the floor 3 times as tall as me. They looked mangled, and most of them bore the name Schwinn. I didn’t understand. I thought we went to the wrong store."
Sounds like a picker's paradise!

Quigley’s Bike Shop
