Superman1984

Cruisin' on my Bluebird
It's for sale but I'd like to know what it may be & year wise, I believe I see Murray chain ring, J.C Higgins style truss rods, wald basket, & a Renak rear hub. The head badge is throwing me off & the rear hub as it's beyond my knowledge thus far

1955 to 1965 middle weight + or - middle weight bike. If you get $10 for it take the money and run. It would cost several hundred dollars to make it a $100 bike. Roger

Just FYI . Generally speaking if a bike has these three things... chain adjusters on rear dropouts, skip tooth chain, 26x2.25 tires, it probably is prewar or at least pre mid fifties.Another clue, front light on pre war will be battery front load, not top load like this one.Exceptions of course, but helps when looking at a pile of bikes or crappy craigslist ad picture and making a fast purchase decision.

That's a Murray head badge, you can barely see the ghosts of the letters between the rivets. There may be a date code above the serial #, might have to sand a little to find it.

Thanks guys. He decided he just wanted to spray it with wd40 & hang it up on the porch. I ended up buying a pitbull puppy instead from him & a few kid's bikes from another source ; Huffy Trophy CS, a Murray Atkins, girl's AMF, & I think a Radio Flyer trike.

Lets see this pibill pup!

The design is from the late 1940's until the late 1950's, when middle-weight cantilevered "space bikes" were introduced.
Sears also had Murray build that style of bike for their retail stores. Looks like a base model without a springer fork, tank & rack, but it could have had parts removed (chain guard), added or replaced (4-star fork w/ truss rods) over the years. Bikes like that one, in varying condition, become available often, in part or in-whole.

Earlier Murray bikes had a "Mercury" label, so that one could likely be later; like a "Sabre Flite".
