Not sure if this has already been addressed before.

How to find an old thread referenced in a relatively old post.
By manipulating url's in the "url bar" one might "find what they're looking for".
[No, they are not called u2rl's].

For example, an old thread may refer to the following url (don't need to click:(
http://thecabe.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?43527-Fauber-Crankset-History

The "V-Bulletin" is a clue, that it will likely not work, because V-Bulletins were superseded by WXYZ-Bulletins, and then the alphabet suddenly ran-out; (kind of like Y-2K, but with a "Z").

Converting an url to the following format may allow the searchers to find threads; (that'll be the day:(
https://thecabe.com/forum/threads/fauber-crankset-history.43527/

The above conversion could be explained by detailed substitutions, but rather than re-typing, I find it easier to copy and paste the thread subject and thread number into an existing CABE url (tab), that does work, with all the other url stuff already in correct format.

Hope this helps.

I just noticed the other day that the direct links to the old V-bulletin’s seem to be working again; (computers are neato).

Thanks!
