Shown here is a very rare Russia vs. USA espionage poster from about 1985. This one hung in hall of the Northrop B-2 Division in Pico Rivera. They had permanently mounted hinged glass enclosures in the hallways where posters with varying messages were displayed as a “PSA” or warning to employees with security clearances to be vigilant and watchful for signs of being "recruited". It was known that Russian nationals would be seated in sandwich shops and local eateries across the street from the B-2 Division in hopes of hearing Northrop-badged employees talk about their work, and they would try and find an employee with a weakness that could be exploited, like being in heavy debt, drug or alcohol use.

I worked there from 1983-1993 and became friends with someone in the Security Dept., who let me have it when the poster was rotated for another sometime in the late ‘80’s. There may have been but 2 of these posters showing at any given time in the sprawling 15,000 employee complex. Classic photo shoot with simple yet effective imagery and expressions. These were made in small numbers and likely were posted in various military sub-contractors facilities during this short time. There are two pinholes at the top corners and one at the bottom in the middle, with slight chips and edge bumps from use. A rare piece of US counter-espionage. Measures 16" x 20".

Note: Thomas Cavanagh, a Northrop engineer was sentenced in 1985 to life in prison for attempting to sell stealth bomber secrets to FBI agents posing as interested Soviet parties. $150.00 shipped to the lower 48, rolled in a tube. PayPal Friends and Family at mike@rainbowtoned.com
