could have been a repair at one time or a 40 hole rim with a 36 spoke hub
I forgot to mention both front and rear 30” rims are laced exactly the same way. It’s possible that this unknown manufacturer had “a better idea” and this was intentional.
Being a misfit myself, it suits me. I could easily relace it in a respectable manner, but being true, I’m going to enjoy it as is.

Are you sure it's not just a trick of the camera angle?
There have been similar conundrums on here in the past that proved to be optical illusions.

I have another thread on this unknown HTS that shows both wheels in different positions. What you’re seeing in the close up is the same on both rims.
Maybe some victorian wheel builder just got bored, or a customer couldn’t decide between radial or tangential....
