I am rebuilding a 1972 Peugeot UO-18 mixte with some modern touches. I'd like to replace the handlebars, which on French bikes typically would mean replacing the stem and sanding down a new 22.2mm stem to 22mm. I rather like this stem though, and was wondering if anyone has ever reamed out a 25mm stem handlebar clamp to 25.4mm? It's aluminum. It's not particularly valuable so I'm not too concerned about making such an irreversible change, and I doubt a small change in diameter will significantly affect the strength (it's pretty overbuilt).
