On Training Wheels
I found buggered threads when putting a freewheel back on the hub, and it started to cross thread.
After reading several suggestions...thread file, knife blade, buy a new wheel, etc....I took an old bottom
bracket lock ring, cut a small slice out of the perimeter of the lock ring (Hacksaw), and spread the opening a little.
I put the lock ring onto the good threads toward the shoulder of the hub, clamped the ring semi-tight with
pliers and used it as a die by threading it off the hub. I spent a fair amount of time thinking about this,
but less than 30 minutes to execute it.

Cruisin' on my Bluebird
-----

great technique for BSC thread 😉

could not be used for metric which is 34.7mm pitch diameter
metric bottom bracket lockrings & cups are 35.0mm

nor for Italian which is of a different thread pitch

VAR makes or made a die for this; do not now recall if it were offered in all three threads
