Xlobsterman

Cruisin' on my Bluebird
It never ceases to amaze me the ignorance of some people selling things. I messaged a guy this morning to see if they traveled to my area, since they were a 2 hour drive for me, and this is the response I got from him just for asking a question. He then blocked me from replying back..........LOL

I have about 20 bikes on CL and I got a call yesterday from a guy that lives 2 hours away he asked me if I would bring 5 bikes at a time to him so he could look at them. He didn't get rude until I said it would be easier if he just came here. He sounded medicated on the phone so I was nice and said he was more than welcome to come and look at all of them, he hung up on me.

I have met people in places that were a halfway meeting point for the both of us, for both buying and selling. This guy was just a D!CK, there are lots of them in this world.

I've had it go both ways...I have had sellers happily meet me half way, happily meet me in my town, & had sellers ghost me for simply asking to meet halfway...
Never had anyone that rude respond like that...totally unwarranted reply to your question...

Yep, most of the time people just say no they don't. And I thank them, and move on...............

I've had a number of bicycles personally delivered to my home by sellers, I've met many halfway, and I've driven significant distances to grab some cool bikes. In most of the cases where the burden of traveling was reduced by the seller, the offer was theirs to begin with and not a request from me. I've learned not to expect any additional effort from a buyer, although it clearly happens. And it's not a stretch to believe that folks might be traveling up into Maine at this time of year so it might work out. But it's like being an average-looking guy and asking an incredibly beautiful woman to dance... You must prepare yourself for the reality of the answer no. And it can be salty sometimes (What makes you think I'd ever want to dance with you?). No need to call the person rude, simply move on and don't escalate. You'll be happier for it.

I usually just note that if they change their mind and will ship, to please keep me in mind as a buyer. Some people grab the gas if your first communication even hints at delivery or making them drive. I've had pretty reasonable responses to that approach, and some people willing to meet me half way if they are somewhat close. Sometimes we just get to talking bikes, which is good too. I enjoy talking with and meeting other enthusiasts. However, it seems like these days, there are so many people right on the edge of anger at all times that little things will set them off.

YES, I agree..............people are wound way too tight nowadays! I guess I ruined this guys morning by messaging him too early? I did try to send him a final message, but he had already blocked me from messaging him at that point.

It never hurts to ask if you are polite (at least the way it use to be) and xlobsterman was certainly polite and undemanding. Geez, people are so touchy lately. I've asked the question when it was the only option, and thought well I'll ask, and actually had someone drive 300 miles roundtrip. I said half way, they said oh the wife and I have been wanting to come to Seattle, so he delivered. I paid him gas and it was a positive experience. Then of course there is the do you want to sell it or not buyer, dictating delivery and price. People just don't know respect anymore. It's all about me...
