Finally riding a big boys bike
Sorry, No Shipping. $490 for the pair. Part of a local estate sale were these two Coppertone bikes. Beautiful 1966 bikes that owners (husband & wife) purchased new, looks like they were ridden a bit, then put in storage. Maybe being in storage for 50+ years, look very lightly ridden. The asking price on the bikes was fair in my opinion, and I am a sucker for any original Schwinn coppertone bikes especially in excellent condition. I made a bit of a low offer, one of those offers you make when you are not sure you want/need the bike(s), but make an offer anyway in a way hoping they turn it down, well they took it. On my way home with the two bikes in my van I have these thoughts of my wife of almost 47 years and myself going for sunset rides together, when I ask myself who am I kidding. Back in the early 80's I remember doing this with her, it was nice. Now when we walk together we have to be careful of cracks in the sidewalk one of us having sustained an injury tripping on the sidewalk not that long ago. Having ridden Stingrays almost exclusively the past 35 or so years, but put me on a big boys bike and I am less comfortable, hesitant/careful which I guess is not a bad thing though. But the sunset ride thought quickly went out of my head.

These bikes are in really nice original condition with their made in USA Schwinn tires, Sprint derailleurs, racks, "S" seats, men's has nice bow pedals. Both bike have Ellingsons San Mateo/San Bruno shop stickers on them as well as Burlingame licenses. San Mateo is the city the estate sale was where I purchased these. When I got them home I aired up the tires and rode them both. Considering neither bike has probably not seen a drop of oil or lubricant in many years, they rode OK and tires held air.

If these bikes were any other color but Coppertone I would have probably not purchased them, the paint looks great and I have not even wiped them down. Still enjoy walking by and looking at this pair of bikes but know it probably won't be long until I decide to let them go. If anyone might be interested in the bikes and is local to me near San Jose, CA, and has any Stingray bikes or parts they might be wanting to sell or trade, let me know and maybe we can do a trade. Just when I was out, this pair of bikes pulls me back in. More lightweight Schwinn bikes. That's OK though, who can complain about anything that puts a smile on your face. As I ended my other posts, I want to make clear this is not a knock against Schwinn Lightweight bikes by any means. They are fantastic quality bikes that are great values but have not seen the collectable status as some of the other Schwinn bikes.

Check out the post on here I made a few weeks ago, a lot of helpful comments on that post regarding bikes

Couldn't resist, I made him an offer he couldn't refuse. I started a post last week about being sucked in by Schwinn Lightweight bikes. A Schwinn Mens 10 speed Suburban and another post regarding a Womans blue Collegiate I picked up at a garage sale for $25, both bikes in excellent original condition. The gist of my posts were they were beautiful well made bikes but always difficult to sell at any price. I was fortunate to sell both bikes leaving me without any lightweight bikes which is generally fine with me. Actually I still have my original 1967 Varsity I was fortunate to get new when I was 12. Anyway, as part of a local estate sale were these two coppertone bikes. Beautiful 1966 bikes that owners (husband & wife) purchased new, looks like they were ridden a bit, then put in storage. Thanks for the interest, but I will not ship these.
To be clear, I think that all he's asking is for you to deliver them as-is to a bike shop that will agree to pack and ship them for you. The buyer will take over as soon as you have dropped them at the shop. He can pay you directly for the bikes themselves, and pay the bike shop directly in order to bring them home.

Interesting detail on the Men's bike: it's got a Soubitez block generator headlight on the front fork, to which the owner (or his bike dealer) has added a Miller taillight, as well as a relatively rare CEV cyclometer on the front axle. That vertical CEV design was offered through Schwinn beginning in the mid-1960s, but appeared in the Schwinn catalog only once, in 1971, and was replaced by a different British model in 1972. (How many miles is it showing?)

So if the buyer pays all shipping and bike store fees, you won’t ship
Amazing

AMAZING, MR DIFFICULT??? It amazes me how someone thinks it is OK to call me a name on this site, and then even have another person "like" the post that is disparaging me. Perhaps it was meant to be humorous, but unless you know/are friends with that person I feel a comment like this should not be made. In my opinion a person should think and read twice anything they are putting out there in type for all to see. I have always been a big supporter of the CABE, and at every swap I sell at I ask people if they have heard of this site. Most say they have. I then ask them what their username is and the majority of them tell me they are not registered on the site so they do not post. When I ask why not register and join in and register on the site I always get a similar answer, that they would not want to put themselves out there for someone to make a snide comment about them as they have seen done on this site, which is what has happened here. I guess that is why I see now when I am writing this that there are 779 people live here on the CABE, 51 members, 728 guests. I have said this before, but it is a shame as I know so many people that are so knowledgeable about bikes and would be such an asset in helping out people with certain bike questions they may have, that do come on here as a guest, but just do want to join in on any conversations and get called something like Mr. Difficult perhaps. I was one of those people as I would go on this site for so many years before joining and posting ,never wanting to join and put myself out there in posting anything on here.

Now I have been called a lot worse than Mr Difficult as have most people. And you might think I am thin skinned because maybe it was a joke, or that I am making a big deal out of a little something. I just have to believe that a post like that is not constructive, has no place on this forum, was not called for, and maybe in their mind it is good natured humor, but it is a dig at me, and I do not know how anyone writing such a post would consider it as anything else but that. Again, maybe it was all meant in fun, hard to tell when something is in type and the person is not speaking directly to you and you do not know that person. For that reason I have not ever sent a text in my life, I do not text as the way someone says something in speaking can make something sound different than in type. This is the closest to a social media site I am on, love BAT, just missed out on a car 3 days ago there I was bidding on, but have never posted one single comment on that site, just bidding. Social media can get nasty. I can't win when it comes to not wanting to ship whole bikes, or large items. I have posted my reasons here several times why I will not ship bikes when I list them for sale, the last time on here I posted my reasons for not shipping bikes, I got responses like, "yea we have been told a dozen times how you do not like to ship bikes" we get it, we have heard this before. So I will not go into my reasons here for not shipping bikes. I will say however that if someone does not want to ship bikes, and posts as such in their ad, that should be fine. It is even OK I feel for someone to ask if I will ship bikes even if they arrange shipping, no harm in asking. Just like the person here who started this by asking that, no worries there. As you can see by my response, I was very polite thanking them for their interest in the bike, but and saying simply I do not ship bikes. I have seen replies from others that offer bikes with no shipping that might say something like " It says I do not ship bikes, can't you read, or something nasty like that. Why other's on here have to respond with rude remarks like the MR DIFFICULT crack is beyond me when they are not even the ones who asked about shipping in the first place, other than the fact they are trying to stir something up. Just another post in my opinion that does not help bring in people to join the site who are hesitant in signing up on the site because of responses like this.

And for those who think I might not have understand what another person meant when asked about bringing these to a shop for packaging and shipping, I know the drill. I have packed many bikes myself, also have brought them to a shop to pack for me, have had photos, even written contracts regarding purchases and what is expected of all parties. I just don't need/want any of that anymore. Had a bike shop once a long time ago forget to put the pedals in the box for a bike they were packing for me, what a nightmare that turned out to be. Now instead of 3 parties involved if I were to pack the bike myself there are 4 parties involved. Me, buyer, shipper, and now the bike shop (packer). I prefer someone looking in person for themselves at bikes I am selling, and not dealing with possible shipping mishaps or any type of complaint, just my choice and most people who know me, know this. During the writing of this I have had two calls which I answered (not texts) from people I know who have asked me about bikes or parts I have for sale, what I am bringing to the Stockton Auto swap this weekend, nice long phone conversations which a lot of people seem to not do any longer which is there choice. My choice is to not ship bikes, my decision, I just prefer it this way, I know not what majority of seller's do, but not what I think is AMAZING. I know very well this limits my market for potential buyers to a fraction of what it would be if I wanted to ship bikes. I used to state that in all my bike listings here on the CABE until people would make the yea, yea, we get it, you don't like to ship bikes, don't have to keep telling us that type of comment. Ending what I know is a long post here with I said earlier in this post, that thinking about and reading twice before posting anything anywhere on the World Wide web is a vey good idea. I have read this three times before posting, I am good with it.

Still for sale. If you are local and can pick these up, make me an offer. Worst I can do is say no thank you and give you a counter offer.
