Robert Troub

I live for the CABE
Stamped 79
Does not have the normal schwinn date code
Also stamped "50" on the outside of the lower fork
Decal is different than what was used in 1979 per the catalog
So, the question is, is this a Schwinn Ashtabula Fork?
Other than these differences, it looks schwinn
Your thoughts are appreciated

So I did find this fork decal on 1982 Schwinn Cruisers.....and they sell on eBay as " Schwinn Stingray decals.."
So are they Ashtabula?

That "surfboard" screened dart came out on the 1981 model Cruisers. I really never looked over my Cruiser forks. The dropouts are definitely different and similar to the ones on the earlier lightweight models. It is a Schwinn fork, but have no idea who did the forging.

In 1969 Schwinn switched the Stingray and all fork drop outs to that style which required a flanged washer to center the axle on that circular drop out. The '80s cruiser forks were longer and straighter then the standard Stingray fork. I have noticed extra stampings on some of my much later Stingray forks. My guess is it is a '79 Stingray fork that some one painted or powder coated and added the surfboard decal. The lack of wear at the drop outs further makes me think it has been re-somthinged

ABS : Ashtabula Bow Steel made Forged Steel Forks for Schwinn.
Yes, the fork appears to be an Ashtabula Fork.
Assuming the fork you have posted is a 20" it would have come on the Schwinn Hurricane 5 as this bicycle had a front brake where the 1981/'82 20" Schwinn Cruiser were only coaster forks.
The fork decal in the Schwinn parts catalog have these listed as "Cruiser".
My question : Is that "Cruiser" fork decal screen printed or water slide decal?

The Stingray was still offered as a 3 speed in '79 i guess it possibly could have been from one of them.
Most all the Schwinn steer tube I have are painted the same way as this one, even paint line.
Yes I went and checked some of mine you are correct.
