Those 1980 MR serial numbers were used all thru 1981 and that is a 1981 model. Please post the actual build date that's stamped on the head badge next to the letter I. I'm betting it was built in June or July.

Here ya go ...says 1751 ...according to the Schwinn Serial number tool it was made in Dec. of 1980 . Not like it makes a lot of difference .

Can you tell us how you came to this conclusion ?.....How does 1751 = Wednesday, June 24th., 1981 ??
How can there be a serial number look up if the serial number "Has nothing to do with any building of the bike " ?

B/C the head badge number is the Julian date code that's, presumably, the last thing put on the bike before leaving the factory. Plenty Schwinn frames are made well before completion, either'd stored or whatever so the frame can have The next years graphics but not matching date.

The graphics on your fork were not issued in 1980. Rather, your fork graphic first appeared around spring 1981. It's an easy tell that your badge will be an 81 or 82 of when made.

Interesting , But the frame WAS made in December of 1980 so it IS 41 years old even though it didn't leave the factory until June of 1981 ....Interesting .

No, the frame was not made in December 1980. First off, there was no bicycle production during that time. Some of Schwinn's workers were on a 13 week strike! The serial numbers were stamped on the part, component and that date was recorded, so the date associated to the serial numbers is the date the number was stamped. That date has nothing to do with any kind of build, frame or otherwise. The serial stamped component (head tube, drop out, BB shell) was then used sometime later to actually build a frame. Nobody in this world knows when a frame was built. Here is just one of thousands of examples that prove this.
