Schwinn cruiser paint matched rear rack.

Just bought this from Neal and put it right on. Gives it a different look. This thing is heavy duty! There has been some posts about these but does anyone have any more info about them? Like what colors were available? What they sold for? Would a dealer have bought all colors or just ordered when they sold one? Neal and I agreed that it seems like they would have just went with silver and called it good.

Love that Rack ! ... I'm sorry, RaRe Schwinn Accessory Rear Carrier ...

I thought I had seen a Black one posted somewhere. I have only ever seen Blue and own a worn Gold one. Very unique, larger Tube Design.
I've only ever seen this Rack on a Schwinn coaster never on a 5 speed model.

So I have been looking at this Typhoon on CL for awhile. At first I thought the carrier was ugly but as a few days pass I totally flip flopped and now I Love it. So after some bartering I brought it home today. Built 12/1980. So what do you guys think of the carrier? I've never seen one but...

2 years ago when he originally posted about that rack I had contacted him about buying it. At the time, he declined to sell it. He sent me a PM recently to see if I was still interested in it. When I replied back to him about it, he told me he had already sold it. I was out on a fishing trip on my boat when I got the message, and didn't reply back right away, so he stated that he figured I was not interested in it..................!

Looks like there was only 3 colors of Cruisers the year these came out. Wonder what the 4th color was. Maybe that was the silver. Dunno.

In the 1982 Catalog there is a similar Cruiser Rack offered and it comes in Red, Blue & Silver

Yes that one is similar but also pretty different. Do you think 1981 is a one year only rack?? No wonder you never see them! Kind of crazy

Back in my days of working at the shop, I do not remember selling one of those racks on a Cruiser. I don't think many were ever sold to the consumer, and that would be why you hardly see one 40+ years later?
