Schwinn Fender Light Issues

Hey all! I am nearing the end of my 1948 Schwinn B6 Build. All thats left is to paint and weather my 6 hole rack. Ive been riding the bike alot since I got it back together and it seems everytime I hit a bump or the spring bounces the battery in the fender light tray pops out of place and the light no longer works. I have some ideas on how to keep the batteries strapped down in the tray but was just curious if anyone here has had success with anything?

.. I take an old 2.125 bike inner tube and cut a section long enough to slip over the outside of the D cell battery or (batteries) ... then install them ... It keeps the batteries from jumping out ...
