Aside from the grips and maybe pedals it's pretty original condition, what years were the straightbar flyingstar made?

always wanted to try a 2speed aviator ......should clean up nice

Can't be a 55. The serial date is May 1956 and in 1957 the frame on the Flying Star was a cantilever. Looks like the Flying Star had its first frame change sometime in 1956. This is only the 2nd one I've seen that was a straight bar.

56 was the only year for the middleweight Spitfire straight bar ( bolt on kickstand also ) so maybe used them for the Flying Star in 56 also. Oh ya, I added the 2 spd ( I think it had painted rims og ) tank, struts & rack https://thecabe.com/forum/threads/56-spitfire.177612/

The 56 brochure depicts the single bar frame, so I'd assume the frame change came about on the mid year models. I suppose that early style frame wasn't very popular so Schwinn changed things up and kept the same model name.

Could it be that they just threw on a flying star guard instead of a spitfire? That old Schwinn thing of whatever was laying around..
