Big Moe

I live for the CABE
Has anyone replaced the threaded bottom bracket and crankset in the le tour with a single speed crank and sealed bearing bottom bracket? And if so, what did you use? Make, model, Yada Yada. Thanks, Big Moe

Waste of time but you could use the newer kinds of sealed BBs but they would cost more than the bike by the time you buy the crankset to use with them. For a single speed find a single chain ring 3 piece crank and use that. Schwinn used lots of them as did others. Roger

Trial and error. There is no real definitive answer.

One bigger problem I see is your rear hub. Simply replacing multi speed the freewheel with a single speed one almost never works. Teeth are to far inward to ever get proper chain line. You can attempt to shuffle around the spacers to better center the hub in the frame therefore moving the freewheel closer to the dropout. But that can become a nightmare because... That then leads to re dishing the rear wheel so its centered in the frame. But most likely means your spoke lengths will not be correct. So than you need new spokes... Its often times easier to just buy a single speed wheel. But your wheels are 27 inch so thats probably something you won't find pre built. Than you custom build ones or use 700c with leads to buying a wheelset but.. Than your brake reach is all wrong.

You are entering a bad bad rabbit hole...
