I live for the CABE
Early 50's Schwinn Lightweight Locking Fork
Things have evolved, and this fork is no longer on my list. This fork most likely came originally on a 52'-53' World Varsity. It was originally black with a hand painted white chevron with red borders on each side. The paint was thrashed.
This is a mild steel tubular fork with pinched tips and stiffening crimps on the insides of the legs that are 2/3 the leg length.
It has a 6-3/4" steer tube length
It originally was for 26" wheels.
The fork is perfectly straight with absolutely no damage.
The caliper is the original stud mounted version for this model locking fork. It is basically complete less the Brake Shoes.
This version of lightweight locking fork accepts the fender hangar in front of the fork, held in place by the caliper stud.
This Caliper has been re-chromed and is perfect.
The lock mechanism in the fork works perfectly and the spring for the pin is strong. The bottom cover is in place and has never been removed.
Thanks to member Wes Pinchot, The Lock cylinder has been professionally cleaned and repaired with two new keys. It works flawlessly. It comes with new set screws to hold it into the fork.
The fork comes with the original Bottom bearing race.
The only thing left to install this on a bike is to get a lower bearing cup for the Schwinn locking fork. The locking fork bearing cups are all the same for all the Schwinn frames. Unless you are putting this on an early Continental (pre-60'). Because they don't need a special cup, they already have a hole in the head to accept a locking fork.
All that is left, is some paint prep and to be painted to match its new bike.
$225 includes shipping.
