If it is the built in one, you need to find the keeper pin an drive it out with a small drift pin. Once that out, the internal parts should slide out of the end of the handlebar.
Keep in mind...the unit in the bars has been in there for 80+ years...and can be a
difficult extraction to say the least... spray something penetrating and strong
down the bar end and let soak a few days.. You will need to fabricate a 'hook'
with a small radius bend 'extractor'. Many years ago a collector in NY
George something, who became a big Motorbike buyer/player sent me
an aluminum tool 'extractor' he made, crude but did the job on occasion..
yet many were just too stubborn to pull out
