Sept 1983 and most likely a Murray built bike. A picture would confirm. Roger

The actual build dates were stamped in the head badges.Should be four digits, first three for the day of the year and the last is the last digit of the year it was produced.

The JU comes back to Sep. of 83. 1983 was a transitional year for Schwinn, they closed the Chicago factory mid way through the year, and shifted all production to Mississippi and your bike is most likely from that facility. The 4 digit date code stamped into the head badge will give you the actual assembly date of your particular bike. Please post pictures.
