Schwinn Stingray front fender braces

When did Schwinn start using a front fender brace on boys stingrays,I know fastback started in 73 but a see older stingrays with and without,so not sure if these are just replacements off a fair lady perhaps or if some actually had them.

I don't think the Sting Ray Deluxe or the later 75ish Sting Rays ever had braces but the Jr's did. I'm definitely not a Sting Ray expert though.

Catalog shows same part number (#52-250) for all years w caliper brake.
#52-252 for non-caliper. Then specifies "fenders for replacement supplied with braces".
