Schwinn Twinn Help

Picked up this tandem the other day. Pretty rough but not beyond fixing. Need help with the SS#. Almost looks like the first letter was welded over when the frame was built ? not sure. Number appears to be 423497. Looking through the Schwinn catalogs I only see the white color option offered in 64. Also, did the twinns have a larger longer kickstand than a standard middle weight bike ? Any help or info appreciated !

Yep, they welded over the letter in the serial number. Pretty common issue with the tandems since the serial numbers were stamped on the drop out prior to being used building a frame. Could be an H with just the bottom right leg exposed. No optional non standard color choices on the tandems during that time and that's a 64, first year for the Twinn. The kickstands are longer too. There should also be a date stamp on the inside of the left fork blade just above the axle slot. It's pretty small and sometimes hard to see.
