With a different chain guard and decal used they also ran this straight bar as the "Skipper"... never any headlights, chrome fork stays or rack, it was clean budget Schwinn.
QUESTION-
How many years was this straight bar-middle weight produced? They are the more rarer of the middle weights and have only seen/owned a handful since 1989 here in the northwest.

These are actually called Twin Bar frames. A straight bar frame is the earlier frames that had one straight bar attached inline with the seat tube and down tube. The early Tornados were the last of the straight bar frames. Two styles of the Twin Bar frames were made and the late 61 and 62 models had the continuous twin bars.

Thanks for the information... the "Skipper" was the tasty original one I once owned with several incomplete "Tornados" passing through the group.
Always tough to find really clean painted S-7s, when found they were like gold.

Thank you i did not know its called twin bar the 1962 catalog confirms that. Schwinn just loves the word twin i guess
