Finally riding a big boys bike
If I was in the south bay this weekend I would go have a look at this one:
Could be a cool project for someone!

I got it. actually rode it a bit with the fenders rubbing, and the tires still have air 5 hours later. the guy had 3 callers including me. one offered $150. then me, then one other who called second dibs. he had the bike for years.

That's really cool. I'm glad you got it. Kind of a rare one to see on CL in the bay area. Is this one a Phantom? It's a B6 I'm assuming though I admittedly don't know that much about old Schwinns. Does it look like there is salvageable og paint under the black?

no good paint under the black. I found the white diamond on the seat post and it looks like the paint was light blue which seems off. I need to try and find any scallops up front. could just be a mix of parts, need to find out what the serial # says.

It's a really cool project. I'd be pretty stoked to bring that one home.

Guard is prewar and possibly the fenders too if the stays are still riveted. The D serial would indicate a 48 or possibly a 47 depending on how Schwinn shuffled around their Alpha Bits cereal with their numbers in those years.
Looking at the BB I see primer then original Black then Blue/Gray then purple then black again.
