Look Ma, No Hands!
Sorry, no pics so I will have to rely on my photographic memory. Last Sunday I went to a bicycle swap meet and saw a pretty nice Sears Spaceliner. By all the information out there, all that I could glean it was a 1966-68 men's model 46922, or so I think. Let me describe it to you. All chrome frame, chain guard and springer fork with a red tip. Separate horn and light switches on the "swept" look red colored tank with the small oval Sears word mark logo on each side. The tank was a little "loose" from being banged around over the years but still no serious damage or no obvious cracks in the plastic. The wide pleated vinyl seat was a glitter ruby red as were the handle bar grips. The seat was like new and the grips were slightly darkened from age and use. A seat crash rail with very good chrome was attached. These may not be original because all of the picture examples that I have seen the seat and grips were black in color. The pedals were white with three small round plastic "jewels" on each side. Hum... I thought the 1963-65 had this style of pedal. The "jewels" on the 1966-68 were different. The crank sprocket did have a very presentable looking red and chrome plated plastic hub cap. The chain guard was in decent shape with the decal still legible. The rear rack was chrome or white, my photographic memory is fuzzy, but it had the larger rectangular tail light with the lens mounted but mounting tabs broken. The original Sears "S" rear fender reflector was intact and virtually undamaged. It of course had chromed rims, good chrome but wobbly, with allegedly original Allstate tires. It also had some kinda cool looking red rocket shaped valve stem caps. It did have the Bendix two speed hub. I did not write down the serial number of the bike or the date code of the tires. Although the chrome was not pitted or rust specked, the bike needed some serious time with 0000 steel wool and polish. The seat tube Sears frame decal was not present. The bike did have a weird, according to pics I have seen of Spaceliners, front "rat trap" front rack reminiscent of an Astro Flite.

The seller had $500 price but went down a whole $50 from that. I know it is not is not a Schwinn and that price seems a little high. Maybe the seller got from a poor widow for 50 bucks, I don't know. I am not really looking for anymore bikes right now and would rather finish the projects that I already have. Spending four plus Franklin bills could wait. What do you guys think?

If you don't need anymore bikes, then don't buy it

Well, I'll do that, just wanted a ballpark figure for something like that. I would say around $275.
Some of the nicer Spaceliners are going for alot more, as I've seen some for $650+. I almost bought another one 3 years ago for $250.00, but another one came along I bought it instead. Good luck. Mark.
