Seat recover question

Wandering what kind of dense foam is used for seat recovers and where I might be able to find some. Thanks , rob.

It might depend on what type of seat you are redoing. The 70's Mesingers used rebond carpet pad.

Sorry I forgot to include that. Prewar saddles such as messinger b1 or troxel, persons etc.

From what I have dissected either dense foam rubber or a jute carpet pad substance. Earlier ones used felt.

Many of the old seats used a felt which doesn't do much or last to long. I redid one of my early 60's Schwinn mesinger seats that had felt with some of this stuff I had in the shed. You don't want a cheesy open cell foam that will be worthless and flat in a year's worth of light use.

I used the material of a dense neoprene mat. It is not as cushy, but very durable.
