Seeking ANY info on an antique Dutch bike

Hey guys- I’m posting because I’m coming up blank on any searches I’ve tried to make. This bike is my wife’s, but it was her great-grandmother’s originally, when she lived in Holland. Branded Loco-Star. Beyond that, we know nothing about it. It appears to have been poorly spray-painted at one point, with someone covering up the logos before painting. Any info? Am I missing a source that could help me? I’d love to restore this for my wife, because she still rides it 3 or 4 times a week. She is very fond of it. Thanks in advance for any information you can pass along. -Daniel

The symbol on the head emblem resembles that of a marque called Locomotief.

Suspect they may issue from the same manufacturer.

Locomotief fairly large company and of long standing.

Yes, it is a Locomotief product. Th. (Theo) Slesker was one of three brothers who ran the Locomotief business. Jan and Theo ran the shop, while Bertus was in charge of manufacturing. Bertus would later become famous as the one who was responsible for the Locomotief racing bikes. In 1961 Locomotief merged with Simplex (the Dutch bicycle brand, not Lucien Juy's outfit). In 1968 they became part of Gazelle, and Bertus basically started Gazelle's racing department.

These are fairly easy to date, as the Loco Star headbadge was only used from 1959 to 1962. After that Loco Star became a Locomotief model name. The serial number should be either on the NDS dropout, or on the seat lug (from 1960 onward). The head lugs on this bike point towards the sixties.
