My career is in numismatics. I buy and sell coins for a living. Much like bikes, people have hugely inflated ideas of what their coins are and what the value is.

I seriously have between 10 and 20 people a day most days that have searched the internet and found their coins are worth WAY more than they really are.

Last week a guy had a 1976 quarter. I spend them.
For 25 cents!
He found online they are worth $30,000
A lady had a 1967 Canadian cent. $160,000 online she said. I offered her one for FREE if she’d just come to my shop. She never showed up‼️🤷🏻‍♂️

Smart phones make people dumber! 💯😳
Guess I can spend all those Canadian pennies I’ve been saving🥸
 
You have to decide up front if the person is persuadable or not. Some people are persuadable with facts, and some just want to argue. You save yourself time if you can size up which is the case at the start.
