One of the things with
One of the things with these short coupled speedo kits that I always got a kick out of, was the type of bike the ad displays it on.
They were always thought to be a Shelby Speedline exclusive, and although, they make the most sense on those long tank bikes.
The ad shows it mounted on a 1938 Schwinn Paramount. View attachment 944799

Look familiar?
I love it!
I just need to find a longer front axle for the Telephone dial hub, so I can mount my genuine Stewart Warner short coupled speedometer kit.
I know, it seems an awful waste of such a cool accessory to be installed on a Schwinn lightweight.
But hey!
That's what the ad shows.
Then all I'll need, is to find a cute young Candy Striper to pose for a picture, and it'll be like 1938 all over again. Lol!

What year is this one. very well care and Preserve bike, very very clean.......;)

Here's an example of the compass that was made available by Hull Mfg. View attachment 944560 These were originally advertised as a Firestone catalog exclusive, but they were widely advertised later, as a universal accessory by Hull Mfg.
The compass is listed in the accessory page of Sears and Robbuck i believe 1939-41 ..... Marty I believe this is the one i sold you last year..... I have had four in my time and it was reproduced years ago by the same guy who made the fork mounts the whole system is very rare i think the cable is the hardest to come up with than the speedo or mount

Yes,
Jerry, this is the compass that I got from you.
Up until you made yours available, I had not seen one of these available at all.
I did find one that used the same head, but the pedestal was intended to be mounted on the dash board of a boat.

I have seen the Hull bicycle compass advertised in the Sears catalog and also Hull Mfg. placed a running ad in the American Bicyclist during those same years.
The 1937/38 Firestone catalogs listed it as an exclusive, but I don't think it ever really was.
Maybe in its introduction, but that's about it.

Jerry, can you please clarify, was the Hull compass reproduced or the fork mounted speedo system? Many thanks, Brant

I think both items were reproduced, Brant.
But, even those are pretty hard to find now.
There was even an Elgin type bracket made which is uber rare.
The head on those was held at a different angle, so it took a different fork bracket.
