Next project: '40s Shelby built Hiawatha I just purchased. Serial is unreadable in pics so I'll have to figure it out when it gets here I guess. I will post a serial number pic when it's here and cleaned off. Does anyone know what years the Hiawatha badge looked like this?

Looking at that fork, that bike is pre 1940. The flat top fork was used into early 1940. After that the round top fork was used, and the round arc truss rods commonly seen on No Nose bikes as well as other 1940/41 bikes.

Little Help needed here Caber's. My Shelby made Hiawatha arrived today and the serial number is C97389. I was told in my previous post that the fork is early '40 and before. I've found 2 different letter charts in this thread and used 1 of them to figure out my '36 Cadillac badged Shelby. According to that chart this bike is a '42, according to the other chart it's a '39.

Fork was not original to this bike Frame was originally red and fork originally maroon. Fork and frame were painted baby blue and later the latex white paint seen was brushed over the blue. Maybe this originally had one of the internal springers.

A few days ago, @jgsb1966 showed us what is thought to be a Wartime Shelby he recently picked up. A seldom seen bike and serial number as it is another clue to finding definitive answers to the Shelby numbers question. This "C07896" serial number is a very LOW 5-digit example adding to what little is known to date about the war years, 41-45.
