I have a pair of Shimano Positron rear mechs, each complete with black cable, shifter, and the special cable clips. These are take-offs from a pair of mid-80s Peugeot five-speed city bikes that didn't get much use.
They are in excellent condition - almost no wear on the jockey wheels inside & out, no rust anywhere, ball detent mechanisms are crisp. The cage plating on both shows some discolouration spots.
On #1 the inner cage has a worn edge at the very bottom, and the top knuckle has a small scrape next the parallelogram top. #1 cable has a single spot where the plastic outer was caught in something and it has a 3/4" long cut deep enough to expose the steel beneath; needs a dab of some black sealant or self-amalgamating tape or something; see pics.
#2 has no marks that I spotted.
See pics - jockey rollers are positioned to show worst wear spots, dark spots on jockey dust covers are not dirt, they are plating spots. Some of the cable clips were originally installed with the nut not seated correctly in the hex recesses and so that side has marks where the nut corners made new divots; see pics. The clips have hex recesses on both sides, so on re-assembly I put the nuts in the good sides.
They are not the same. #1 has an extra plastic bit on the top jockey wheel, and a different shifter, and a different shifter clamp band (no logo,#2 says "POSITRON").
Cleaned, lubed, and assembled as shown, 40 USD each or the pair for 70, and I'll cover postage. If you only want one tell me which one.
And a pair of technical reminders: a) the cable clamp nuts have a flat side and a rounded side - the flat side goes in the hex recess; and b) the correct tool to remove the jockey-wheel bolts is a 8mm socket that has been ground flat - see last pic (normal sockets just round off the top corners of the extra-thin heads).
First pic is of the jockey wheels before cleaning, to show the amount of dirt they had collected (not much).
