Shortening a chain?

Is it possible to shorten a pre war diomand skip tooth chain? I’m thinking that the pins holding the links together come out like screws but I thought I would ask before attempting to try. Thanks

There are specialized tools to pop out the crimped pin. I just file one end (head) of the pin off and use a punch on an opened vice to knock it out.

Use a modified chain breaker that force-presses the pin out. It's a bit tougher than a regular chain. I've done it many times. Could use a punch and vice also.
