I just purchased a Schwinn Aerocycle I restored some 15 years ago for a
northwest collector. The bicycle originally surfaced on ebay being sold by
a lady who owned it, in house paint (red overpaint) and with a basket on
the front. The bike was completely intact minus the holy grail taillight
lens and in incredible survivor condition regarding tank, sheet metal etc.
Perfect candidate to restore... The gentleman I restored the bike for had
access to an optometrist who was able to make a small run of glass
Taillight lenses... very convincing as well. The bike came back together
nicely, he added the handlebar button (delta and a repro) which I have
since swapped out for an original EA button. Original Gillette Tires,
beautiful original Troxel top on a rechromed chassis. Best thing about
the restore process on this bike was having my original unrestored
aero at the time. I was able to get a DEAD ON color match to the red
and silver.. thanks to areas on my original that had no sun fade etc.
A fun and challenging build... iconic Schwinn streamlining earliest example.
Enjoy!
