Silver king seat post qustions

-

Rustngrease

Wore out three sets of tires already!
I pick up this frame from a member here, 1936 king , was wondering how this seat post was set up, if there's a set screw to drill out and how I could go about repair, any pics and info would be much appreciated.

Cheers

you are going to need a Silver King specialist on this.

I am pretty sure you have the issue where the steel has bonded to the aluminum frame.

I know how to get an aluminum seat post out of a steel frame, but that information on this would dissolve your bicycle and I am pretty sure you want the bike more than the post.

I am pretty sure that you are dealing with galvanic or bimetallic corrosion here. The main problem is the chrome seat post and aluminum don't mix well, there should have been a layer of grease between them. I don't know if there is an easy solution for you.

Should have had a quil style seatpost. Like a gooseneck works. No set screws or pins. Have you remove the quil bolt or is that how it came.

That's how it came to me, I would use it how it is, but would be nice to have a little more length

I had the same issue with my SK seatpost.

I started by soaking it forever, and it still wouldn't budge. I finally resorted to cutting the very top of the post off, then using a hacksaw blade carefully cut the seatpost from the inside working outward. It was slow going but worked like a charm.
