Skip Tooth Questions

Having my first wood wheeled skip toother, did the safety bikes start this trend? When looking at the chainring I see what looks like deleted sprocket teeth in between. Any reason for this?

Welcome to the CABE.
The 1" pitch spacing roller chain was an improvement to the non-roller block chain, with blocks, plates and pins, (no rollers).
The 'deleted teeth' is where the block would land. There may be threads on the topic.

Looking at the deleted in-between teeth made me wonder if the skip was created after the 1” roller chain (present design).
