spoke gauge

Has anyone been able to use a drill bit guide to measure spoke gauge diameter?

Why are some spokes called 12, 14 etc. gauge and others called 105 and 120 gauge? Is it just a multiple X 10?

I need to re spoke some prewar (1939) Elgins rims and I'm trying to figure out what size are in the rims now so I can get some new ones.

Don't think that will help you.....

Just get one of these.......14guage spokes are referred as 2mm when buying....

I've got a digital caliper as you pictured. Reads in fractions, decimals, and millimeters

and I've also got a micrometer. Measures only in inches.

With the chart, I'll be able to put them to use.,
