Spoke length calculation formulas.

Has anyone used any mathematical formula, using only paper, pencil and a scientific calculator to find spoke length?

I found this formula ( pictured at the bottom left ) in the back of the book " The Bicycle Wheel" by Jobst Brandt. I played with it , as well as other formulas found online..they are very accurate.

I am just wondering who sat down and came up with these formulas. They are on a different dimension of thinking .

I have become spoiled with the online spoke length calculators.

Ever since the first spoke calculator I found on the internet I’ve never looked back.

I’d rather straight up guess than try todo math, lol
