Wore out three sets of tires already!
hello i pick this shifter up a while ago and i couldn't figure out the age of it. It looks pre war to me but i dont fine alot of old 3 speed parts. Any information would be helpful. Thank you

They were used both pre-war and post-war, but the thumb shifters replaced them by about 1950. Three speeds weren't as common pre-war, so most likely it's early post-war, but that's just a guess. There's good pictures of one from 1949 in this thread:
You'll notice that the style is different on that one. If somebody knows the significance of this, I'd like to know!

Schwinn started using these on their new lightweights in 1939 with the optional 3 speed SA hubs. They were also used on many of the early post war Continentals and some Paramounts.
