Sunday's Show and Tell ... 1/3/21

-
Busy few days here. I unloaded a bear of a crate that belonged to racer Will Stinson along with his Red Wing, G. W. Grady New England Cycle Co. bicycle, with his initialed saddle. Huge thanks to @kccomet. A beautiful photograph reproduction showing Columbia’s exhibit in Paris arrived from the French Bibliothèque. The image prominently shows the racer Model 44; this will look great displayed with my Columbia 44. The 1988 Mountain Klein from @Leoncito arrived (thank you!); I am looking for parts to make it factory stock. I am also thrilled to finally get this 19th century lithograph of the Columbia/Hartford factories; it is almost 5 feet wide! It will be sent off to a paper conservator to de-acidified and have the stains removed.

Moving forward with my dream car build. I splurged on a legit English wheel this week and got my "beater bag" and mallets. I've got the donner vehicles here and I discovered the black one has a LSD differential which was a pleasant surprise. I started making this scale model so I could see the car in three dimensions. The rusty blue "420G" I bought for the engine but I've kind of fallen in love with it and I'm dreaming of building it into a rat rod drift car.

I picked up this early 1930s Signal Service Corporation traffic signal.. it has all the original lenses still in it.. Signal Service Corp. (SSC) took over the signal line of American Gas Accumulator (AGA) around 1931.. and was taken over by Marbelite shortly after world war 2 .. Restorable SSC signals are nearly impossible to find according to Willis Lamm's Traffic Signal Collection web site.. its 13" wide and 62" tall including the mounting brackets...

Great project but I gotta tell you, I love your work shop. I love the old siding on the walls and the wooden floor. I used to be in repair shops like that when I was a kid. I just seemed warmer and the smell was was welcoming.

I found two items at goodwill, and both purchases are a little nicer than anticipated.

One is a higher end Wilson tennis racquet, What made me happy with this purchase, is after I got home I noticed a little zipper pouch in the soft case. After I inspected the zipper pouch I found $23.46 cents.

The other is a Gorham brass Leonard Craske miniature sized copy of the full sized Gloucester Fisherman Memorial in Gloucester Massachusetts. The original sculpture was completed in 1925.

The extra cash found afterwards more than payed for both items.

My dad passed away just before Christmas and was a collector of interesting things; some of the treasures from his collection will make it to Texas with me.

A few suitcase items :
78 rpm jukebox record spacer. Early spark plug and a section of steel waterpipe from the old Illinois state prison (think Blues Brothers)
