My Man Caves runneth over. I have expanded the basement Man Cave to include a storage room that was, well full of storage stuff we have "relocated". I had some pals over for a bonfire on Thursday night, and that's something we do fairly regular, but hasn't been here for a year or so. We try to congregate every few months ( slow in Summer when guys on vacation/rare we do Winters anymore due to lack of heated garage) and prefer outdoor/garage setting. These are guys I grew up with and many live within blocks/couple miles and we see each other in passing often. Group of 10-12 not so much. We used to do fishing trips/lake runs, and included the gals in the old days with dinner parties etc. I'm the bald guy with the yellow shirt ( has Whamo Wheelie Bar on it/ and grey ponytail and socks and sandels/denim jacket. A look I laughed at decades ago! Sitting on far left in one shot, standing far right in another.
I lucked out with a fresh score of a Marx tin garage yesterday at my antique dealer's place ( Mikes trying to retire/but keeps buying) and these are common, but usually beat up, and lets face it, they take up lots of room, so not everyone's cup of tea. I've owned probably 6 or 7 in 40 years ( always flip when I run outa room) but this one is almost 100% complete, with the box and instructions. It had just come in his door when I saw it. ( he's down to only 2 days a week open) It had that brown shipping wet with water tape all over it a damp wash cloth removed. I had the instructions laminated in plasctic today as they were virtually disintegrating. The guy that sold the service station to Mike got it from an 80 year old neighbour years ago that was throwing it out!
Mike had just got in some original cardboard Coke signs too that were dumped on a guys lot ( with tin and porcelain/some also in my collection) back in the 50's by Coke employees on the way to the dump. Now the grandson has been selling the tail end to Mike. The original "old" dude was using the tin signs for building and roof projects, calendars for scratch pads, and these HUGE 57" X 27" cardboards are a bit rough, some double sided, some with drawings on the back. The old guy did fabricating with metal, farm, and hobby projects. All this crap was just stuff to use, and it was free. I made up the frames last night. Not pretty but they'll do. I have tons of posters ( many Schwinn Krate and Corvette) coming to complete the room, and the inner amp for my Garnet Sessionman back from repair maybe by end of week. I also have some glass shelves I'll put up on the wood wall.
