Finally riding a big boys bike
Me and My first bike, near the end of WWII.
Second pic, My recreation of that first bike.
I know not where my parents got that first old used bike because during the war, new balloon tire bikes were not built. So if it came from a bicycler shop, it was likely pieced together from old parts on hand. If it came from an individual, no telling what it was made of.
But since I have some old pics of my childhood bikes, I thought it would be fun to try and recreate them. My old bikes weren't badged, and neither is this recreation, but the new one is said to be a '36 Elgin, but it looks like a Snyder fork. So no tellin...!
The Hawthorn chainwheel on the new version is just like the old bike, The bell and the chainguard on the new, are just like those I had on the old, at different times. (I was frequently changing things on my bicycles)...
