Off hand, I'd say this tintype is from the San Francisco area judging from the backdrop which is an illustration of the old Cliff House next to the S.F. Bay. It survived the 1906 devastating earthquake but burned down the following year.
The Cliff House had many bicycles like high wheel, hard tire safety and TOC up to the fire. They were purchased years later by a private collector. Today there are still two boneshaker frames that are missing all wood and burnable parts and the frames and metal parts are tweeked / warped from the fire's heat. They have survived and the original owner's relatives still have them and may sell. They could be saved or used as wall art.
