Tire Removal Issue

I was having a hell of a time removing this tire from a rim. Then I realized why. There were actually two tires on there, one inside the other. Same deal on other wheel. Has anyone else ever encountered a situation like this? Also several of the spokes were extending over 1/8" beyond the end of the nipple. YEESH!

I still see a reinforced drop stand thats not in use Sure would look good in the for sale section.

That's a first I've ever seen that. Wonder how the bead ever seated.
What kind of rims were they?

They were on S-2's with HD spokes, and they did seem to seat, however I didn't ever see them with inflated tubes.

maybe it was for racing. you could keep your racin tires on under your normal ones and strip em off the top layer when it was time for action.

my dad used to put old tires in the new tires to help prevent thorns from popping our tubes.we had the serious goat head type thorns all over.

I was thinking it might have been a type of DIY thorn-proofing. And maybe the two rim strips on each wheel was for spoke-proofing. But if it were me, I woulda just filed down the spokes.

perhaps they forgot they put the first on and did put on another without realizing it.
