I had a similar issue on my Rambler where the nut was smaller than the crank arm.
Turned out, this bike has a coupler inside the BB to connect the two halves of the crank.
This thread linked below explains what I had to do to get my crank apart, and contains a link to another thread that helped me figure it out.

That looks like the ticket. I removed the Oiler port and sure enough I can see the notch on the axle. I’ll try removing the cranks tomorrow. Thanks for the help!
