I'm stumped on how to remove these cranks. The lock nut is smaller than the crank arm, so it won't pass. What am I missing?

I had a similar issue on my Rambler where the nut was smaller than the crank arm.
Turned out, this bike has a coupler inside the BB to connect the two halves of the crank.

This thread linked below explains what I had to do to get my crank apart, and contains a link to another thread that helped me figure it out.
Although your setup is different, I suspect you also have a multi piece crank that comes apart in the middle, somehow. This may help point you in the right direction.
