@Barnegatbicycles, thanks for the copy of that piece of literature. I am going to investigate further to see if that access hole is indeed what it could be...initially I thought it was for grease/oil access and the "plug" was missing.

Hi all:

Just took a look and yes, there is a rectangular slot in the access hole! In the attached pic the shiny part within the hole is an edge of the slot...and I can tell it has been apart before based on the somewhat mangled edge of the slot. I'll see what I can do over the next couple of days.
