Cruisin' on my Bluebird
Seldom go to flea markets, but the wife and I went to one today. I usually show a photo of my wife , whenever I mention her, but was warned by CABE censors NEVER to post her photo again......she was very offended, but I reluctantly will comply. ........ There was a few old bikes there, so here goes. First up, is this thing. I would take it only if it was for 25 bucks or less. This bike does nothing for me and the tag says 295 . At 295, this bike will go home with the vendor. Nobody would pay that for this hunk of Roebuck junk.
Next is this 1950 Schwinn Admiral . $239????? Who the heck asks 239 for anything. Especially a junky, worn out and common Schwinn? Unless he lowers his price at least a 100 bucks, the vendor will go home with this turd. It's 120 dollar bike.......at best, on a very good day. 80 would be a fair price this sunny Labor Day weekend. I'm thinking the 1950 date is a guess. I'd say 47-48.
Next was these two 1970's Schwinn middleweights. The guys were "Asking" 60 bucks each. They both had that thirsty look and I would have offered 40 each and probably got them. The Black boys bike did sell and I'll bet he got 50 for it. Both nice riders and would easily clean up.
The nice thing about this black boy's bike was the color and the rims. Excellent condition, with the newsboy heavy spokes, make this bike worth the asking price.
The above seller's insane. Price was 100 bucks This is a 20 dollar bike. Nobody wants a worn out Schwinn Suburban. Well maybe some Schwinn guy might step up to the plate at 40- but these are a hard sell . The pedals were the best thing going for it.
Next up: The "gem" of the flea market. Nice bike and totally original. If I was into middle weights, this bike would be going home with me. I saw the bike and took these photos "before" I seen the seller . Turns out the seller is a good friend of mine. He's not a bike collector, but buys and sells old toys. Occasionally an old bike comes his way. He does occasionally sell on the CABE. Not sure of the year. I'll guess 63-4. Asking price is $400. This bike was so clean, and with that springer on the front of it, I'll be surprised if this bike didn't sell today.
Anyway, that's what was at the flea market in the beautiful blue, and broke state of Illinois this Sunday.
