On Training Wheels
I just purchased this child’s size bicycle and would love some information about it. It has wood rims and the badge reads Tribune Model 252 made by Pope Mfg Co. Westfield Mass USA. Any information about this would be greatly appreciated. The bicycle to me looks very original and it came out of a barn in Petaluma, CA on a very old ranch.

You're never 100% sure of the accuracy of what you read in a post on Wikipedia, but there's a
fairly accurate biography of Pope bicycle manufacturing if you Google it.

Nice little Tribune. Here is a brief history of Tribune Bicycles:

1893: Black Manufacturing Company incorporated in Erie PA to manufacture Tribune bicycles starting model year 1894.
1894-1899: Tribune bicycle model years made by Black Manufacturing Company in Erie.
1900: Black Manufacturing sells out to new American Bicycle Company (ABC) Fall 1899. Factory remains in Erie. 1900 model year is first and only year under ABC.
1901-03: American Bicycle Company becomes American Cycle Company. Factory remains in Erie until August 1902 when production moves to Westfield MA.
1904-1920+/-: Pope Manufacturing takes over full control of American Cycle Company and continues producing bicycles using the Tribune name.

There may be a few articles on Pope, a man and a company. I thought that the Colonel died about 1909 or so, and the eponymous company went bankrupt in 1913 or so, and reorganized yet again as "Westfield" (then a place and a company).
