Triple Step Valve Stems

Howdy

I picked up a '36 Rollfast with triple step wheels. It has original Continental tubes and tires. The tubes have the sweet metal threaded stems. However, I'd like to save the tires and tubes and use new tires and tubes. The stems with the new tubes won't fit through the stem hole in the wheels. Is there some modern tubes with skinnier stems? Or am I stuck trying to find some more of the $17 tubes with the metal stems that Scott had on eBay a while back?

I've used a slightly larger bit than the hole and drilled it to work.
Don't forget the tip jar on your way out...

You think half inch would do the job? That's the only sharp bit I got left.

If you open up the hole make sure you file and smooth the hole or you will cut into the rubber and you will be walking.
