Two prewar Hawthornes. One is a zep

Finally riding a big boys bike
Picked up these two last night. The zep was posted on local classifieds, with one crappy picture. I wasn’t exactly sure what it even was, but for the price it was worth the hour and a half drive. When I got there they said there was another old bike that they hadn’t posted yet. It was the one with the tank, and again it was a really good price. So I stuffed them both in my car.

From the pictures I’ve seen looks like the zep is a 1939 Snyder built bike? Seems to have a lot of the original parts. Looks like it was red with white scallops and black pinstripes. I also have the headbadge and the key for the lock. Too bad it’s missing the tank sides and headlights. Appears that the fork was replaced, but it looks like the correct fork?

I found one very similar Hawthorne and it was listed as a 1940. Also looks to be mostly original. Bike is really solid. Snyder built too?

Pretty sure the Zep would have the drop stand only. I'm jealous of you though lol. I had a Hawthorne just like the tanked one and it was a 1938 if I remember correctly. And I have a Zep style frame but it's missing the tank, lock, guard, and holes for battery box. I'd love to have picked those up!! Congratulations!

Great picks. Definitely CWC for the pair.
Ones a Post War Comet, 3gill.
The other as mentioned is a rarely so complete, let alone found Hawthorne Zeppelin. Not just a CWC DBR but the real deal. Rare bird. Don't take any wooden nickels for it..
